Foreign Office blocks shifting of USZ Consulate in Lahore

LAHORE – The USZ Consulate in the provincial metropolis plans to shift its offices to Jauhar Town, but the Foreign Office is not according permission, Pakistan's daily The Nation reports. The security agencies have also expressed some reservations about the move. It is said that those working in the consulate feel that their present offices are located at a congested place and are also vulnerable to terrorist activities. They want to shift to a place near Shaukat Khanum Cancer Hospital.
Another plot under consideration for the purpose is near PCSIR Housing Society. This plot is owned by a prominent banker. According to informed sources, the USZ Consulate officials started holding consultations about their new building with the NESPAK Limited, without seeking permission from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. It is said that even the Punjab government has not been informed.
